Monday Morning Markets/Jobs/Opportunities

If you're a practicing writer under 30, take note of this competition and start preparing now! In September, the Virginia Quarterly Review will hold a Young Reviewers Contest "to encourage and cultivate young reviewers and critics under the age of thirty." Prize includes: $1,000; publication in the Winter 2009 VQR; and a publishing contract for three additional reviews (worth $3,000). "Runners-up may also be offered publication" in print or online. You'll need to submit an in-depth review of a RECENT book published in the U.S., and you'll need to do that in October. Check here for details. There is NO ENTRY FEE.
==========
Poetry magazine is now using an online system for submissions. Details (and information on pay rates) here.
==========
Get to know agent Michelle Brower, who "would love to see more accomplished literary fiction" and "is also actively building" her YA list, here. (Some specific "wish list" items of hers right now: "a literary ghost story, a book club novel that explores another culture, and a YA that I can really sit down and enjoy as an adult.")
==========
Paying internship opportunity with up! magazine in Calgary. Application deadline: May 9. Details here.
