Well, I managed to read all four books I had with me on vacation. I won't mention one of them, because I really did not enjoy it, and I think it has already received more publicity than it merits, but the other three are well worth your attention:
--Both Ways Is the Only Way I Want It is Maile Meloy's latest story collection. Sad, creepy, and oh-so-smoothly-crafted. The story "The Girlfriend" is still haunting me.
--Fearless Confessions: A Writer's Guide to Memoir. Stay tuned for an interview here on the blog with this book's super-smart author, Sue William Silverman.
--Unnamed novel. I think it's generally bad form to publicize the titles of books you have under review before the actual review appears. So you'll have to wait a little while to hear about this one. But you WILL hear about it (my editor is expecting the review on Saturday, which is going to be a bit of a challenge, but I'm up for it!). Sorry for the delay.
What have you all been reading lately?

Just bought the Malloy. I'll move it up in the pile.
I'm in the middle of Fearless Confessions, too. Also read the new novel Bird in Hand, and just finished The Opposite of Love.
I too an in the middle of reading a book-to-review, a whopper of a cookbook, something new and fun for me.
And I'm going to re-read Angela's Ashes, Catcher in the Rye, and Huckleberry Finn because they are on my son's school reading list (and I want to sound moderately intelligent when he asks me a question!).
I've just finished Niffeneger's The Traveler's Wife. I was not impressed.
There were actually times that I had to put the book down and walk away because I was getting so annoyed. I guess you can say that it was successful in getting a response from me... hah

Lori, I hope you'll let me know what you think of the collection (and if you find "The Girlfriend" as searing as I did). Lisa, you are SUCH a good mom! And what an appropriate time to reread McCourt. And Stef, it's funny--I keep thinking that that novel just HAS to be better than the film seems to be (according the reviews I've seen, NPR excepted). But maybe not. I guess that one isn't going on my tbr list.
I'm also reading a book for a review, and in doing so, I'm re-reading all of the author's previous work...which feels a bit like a self-imposed seminar! Another recent novel I quite liked was _Sima's Undergarments for Women_ by Ilana Stanger-Ross. As for TTR, I actually quite enjoyed the book, but the previews for the movie look terrible: a seeming advertisement for the next Nicholas Sparks project.
