Fugue, a literary journal based at the University of Idaho, is assembling a 20th anniversary issue "in the form of a regionally based issue. Bruce Barcott said, 'We created the northwest with words,' but we are adding that it is this region which causes writers to write. This latter thought is what we are developing our anniversary issue around - the writers of the west, but more specifically the insiders, the born, the original settlers versus the outsiders, the migrators, the transplants, the carpetbaggers. What causes the insiders to stay here and write about this place, and what causes the outsiders to come to this place to write?" Submissions due January 1, 2010.
