Monday Morning Markets/Jobs/Opportunities

This weekend I completed the most recent update of our biggest e-book: the Guide to No-Cost Literary Contests and Competitions. It now profiles 275 contests, fellowship competitions, residency programs, and scholarships open to writers that don't charge application or entry fees. And it doesn't contain any listings that are limited to the residents of a single state or province (more value for your purchase this way). So check it out. You can learn more and download a free preview with sample listings right here.
==========
Oregon Humanities, a magazine "of ideas and perspectives" published by the Oregon Council for the Humanities, is now accepting submissions for its Summer 2008 issue, which will focus on the theme of "Class." Deadline for feature proposals and essay drafts is February 11, 2008. Also publishes book reviews. Pays: $50-$800, depending on the department and the length/complexity of the piece. Check the detailed guidelines and download the call for submissions here.
==========

Special volumes are also planned on dogs ("stories about dogs you have known that provided help and comfort in some special way to those facing the challenge of chronic illness or disease," with a deadline of August 31, 2008); and Iraq and Afghanistan ("stories about your experiences or the experiences of someone you know serving in Iraq or Afghanistan," also with a deadline of August 31, 2008). Pays: $200. Guidelines here.

And, as usual, some staff jobs for writers (since I work for a university, I'm partial to helping writers find jobs in higher education--even if it's not a teaching job):

Senior Writer/Project Manager, Harvard School of Public Health (Massachusetts)
Editor, University of San Francisco Magazine
Senior Writer, North Dakota State University

Thank-you for this post.

I was diagnosed with MS last February and am hoping to write something for submission to their special issue on the subject.

Namaste.

(I found your post from my daily google alert on 'multiple sclerosis'....)
