Yesterday at work my supervisor told me about a new favorite technology tool: Jott.com. Of course, I listened. And of course, I immediately started thinking about how it could be applied to one's writing practice.
Jott.com's premise seems to be fairly simple: It helps you "jot" down your ideas (and appointments, lists, reminders, etc.). Using your voice.
You can "Jott to Self" (this is what seems most promising to me, to preserve those flashes of inspiration that strike when you don't have a notebook with you). You can also send a "Jott" to a group (alerting your writing group that you'll be late to the gathering, for example). And there are other possibilities, too. Apparently it's even possible to send blog posts via Jott.com!
This is how it seems to work: You call a toll-free telephone number (as you can do, say, while you're on the crosstown bus--let's leave aside for the moment the issue of cell phone usage in public places like the crosstown bus). And you leave a message that's converted into an e-mail, text message, or other format (as I said--it seems that one can even blog via Jott.com).
It seems simple enough. And useful, too. I haven't yet signed up for it, but I'm tempted (it's free, after all).
Any of you using Jott.com now? How are you finding it? And how is it affecting your writing practice?

Wow, it sounds interesting, but too good to be true. How can it be free? There must be a catch somewhere. I may look into it further.
