Our focus is on local news and politics (especially East Harlem, Brooklyn and the Bronx) and arts and entertainment. The July/August issue of Poets & Writers magazine is now available, and you know what that means! A whole new set of calls for manuscripts and contest listings. Just be aware that not all the journals and magazines that advertise with P&W pay their writers, and most of the contests charge entry fees. Which is why I'm not detailing them here.

The Guide to Literary Agents editor's blog lets us know about two new agents, and shares some tips on what they're looking to represent.

Finally, you can look forward to receiving the next opportunity-packed issue of our free monthly newsletter before next Monday rolls around. Not yet a subscriber? Join us! It's free; we don't share your e-mail address with anyone else; and you'll receive access to a free guide to "eponymous literary contests" (a subscriber-only benefit). Click here to proceed. (Be forewarned that your editor/publisher is valiantly battling a formatting bug that has reared its ugly, unforeseen head, so you may see a newsletter that LOOKS slightly different from the ones you may have come to know and love. But never fear--you'll find the same super content within.)
